Three sisters from North Carolina met a tragic end in a head-on car collision just one day before the youngest was due to celebrate her birthday, as informed by local authorities.
The victims were identified as Viola Medlin Singletary, 74 years old, Gloria Medlin McCrimmon, 72 years old, and Cheryl Elaine Medlin, 63 years old. The crash occurred on Wednesday, June 7, on Highway 690 in Moore County, when a 2023 KIA moving in the opposite direction crossed over the center line and collided head-on with their silver 2010 Hyundai, State Highway Patrol officials disclosed.
The collision resulted in the complete wrecking of the sisters’ vehicle and the death of the driver of the KIA. The youngest sister, Cheryl, would have turned 64 the following day. Suzanne Beasley, a passenger in the KIA, survived the accident but suffered severe injuries. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 10:59 am when the unidentified driver of the KIA, allegedly speeding, lost control while navigating a bend, culminating in the devastating collision. The sisters were in the midst of errands for Cheryl Medlin’s upcoming 64th birthday celebration when the accident occurred. In memory of Cheryl, the family plans to hold a balloon release ceremony.
Suzanne Beasley’s cousin, Wayne Davis, was on the road at the time of the crash. He immediately rushed to offer aid, only to discover his cousin among the victims. Davis described the grim scene, noting, “I hadn’t seen my cousin in eight years and there was blood around her face. I couldn’t recognize that it was my cousin.” The collision’s impact made the Hyundai spin uncontrollably, and debris from the engine struck Davis’ work truck.
Preliminary investigations by the State Highway Patrol point towards excessive speed and reckless driving by the KIA as contributing factors to the crash. The inquiry is ongoing.
