The explosion occurred on the evening of Wednesday, June 21, at approximately 8:40 pm on a vibrant Yinchuan street in China, teeming with locals and tourists gearing up for the Dragon Boat Festival.

The blast rendered many unconscious, prompting the intervention of rescue personnel. The casualties included both high school students and senior citizens.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the restaurant staff had detected a gas leak due to a damaged tank valve an hour before the disaster. The explosion ensued during an attempt to fix the malfunctioning valve.

In response to the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping insisted on immediate medical care for the injured and the implementation of a safety review. He called for a meticulous investigation into the accident, ensuring legal consequences for those responsible. He also called upon all relevant departments to thoroughly scrutinize and rectify any lurking hazards to ensure public safety.

The incident transpired in one of Fuyang Barbecue’s outlets, a reputed chain in Yinchuan known for its enticing menu of grilled skewers and stir-fried cuisine. The two-level restaurant seated 20 people on the first floor, while the second floor housed private karaoke rooms.

Injured individuals received medical attention at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University.
