Following a brief two-hour jury deliberation, the verdict was delivered.

An Alabama teenager was found guilty of killing five of his family members in 2019.

Seventeen-year-old Mason Sisk was convicted on Thursday, April 27, of four counts of capital murder for the fatal shootings of his father, John Sisk, 38, his mother, Mary Sisk, 35, and his siblings, Kane, six, Rorrie, four, and Colson, six months. The trial lasted nearly two weeks, with over 30 witnesses testifying. His retrial began on April 17 after a judge declared a mistrial in September 2022.

Sisk killed his family inside their Elkmont, Alabama home on September 2, 2019, when he was only 14 years old. During the trial, 31 witnesses provided testimony, and jurors saw evidence, including a video confession in which Sisk admitted to killing his family due to his frustration with constant arguments, according to Alabama Local.

Sisk initially denied any involvement in the shootings. However, text messages revealed that he had boasted about his gun skills and the effectiveness of using a firearm to carry out the killings.

Sisk’s defense attorney, Shay Golden, spoke to a local news outlet and mentioned that his client was disappointed and struggled to express his emotions without support. Golden expressed confidence in their grounds for appeal, saying the case would likely be retried.

Due to Sisk’s age at the time of the murders, he will not face the death penalty. Instead, he may receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

In 2019, Sisk’s cousin claimed she believed he killed his family after discovering that Mary was not his biological mother. She shared that the then 14-year-old had been exhibiting troubling behavior in the months leading up to the murders, including breaking into a school and harming animals.

Sisk will be sentenced on July 25.
