A pregnant mother and her two-year-old son were found dead in a home in a small Idaho town, with the police suspecting it to be a case of murder-suicide.
Authorities have identified the victims as 33-year-old Elizabeth Lawley, who was six months pregnant, and her young son, both of whom had suffered gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement was alerted to the situation on Wednesday, May 17, following troubling reports that the bodies were discovered in a room of Lawley’s father’s home in Wallace, Idaho, at around 8:30 pm. Lawley’s father returned home at 6 pm, under the impression that his daughter and grandson were napping in another room. He made the discovery of their lifeless bodies a couple of hours later.
Further details about the incident were released by the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office through a press statement on their Facebook page the next day.
Based on initial investigations, Sheriff Holly Lindsey suggested that Lawley may have shot her son before taking her own life. Law enforcement officials, including deputies from the sheriff’s office, stayed at the scene from 8:30 pm into the early hours of the morning, performing a thorough search and processing the crime scene.
Captain Jeff Lee, a representative from the sheriff’s office, confirmed that the evidence collected at the scene pointed towards a murder-suicide. He clarified that Lawley’s father is not being considered a suspect in the investigation.
The investigation continues as the authorities await the results of the analysis of all the evidence, including the medical examiner’s report.
