The annual Met Gala once again united the fashion elite in New York City, this year celebrating the life and work of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld.
The Met Gala, an exclusive fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is renowned for its high-profile attendees and lavish outfits. This year, the gala highlighted a striking array of pearls, starched collars, and monochromatic ensembles in tribute to Lagerfeld.
Following the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” guests were encouraged to don attire honoring Lagerfeld’s remarkable legacy. Lagerfeld was famous for his distinctive style featuring white hair in a ponytail and dark sunglasses. Regularly seen with his cherished dog, Choupette, Lagerfeld’s impact on fashion designers and models spanned generations.
The color scheme of black, white, blush, and pearls mirrored Lagerfeld’s classic Chanel aesthetic. Many attendees showcased Chanel designs, including Margot Robbie, who looked stunning in a 1993 dress previously worn by Cindy Crawford.
Nicole Kidman perfectly embodied the “in honor of Karl” theme, gracing the red carpet in a vintage Chanel Haute Couture gown from Lagerfeld’s 2004 collection. The remarkable design was recognizable, as Kidman had worn the same dress in a Chanel No. 5 commercial in 2004, directed by Baz Luhrmann.
In contrast to last year, when Kim Kardashian garnered attention by crash dieting to fit into a rhinestone-studded dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe, this year Kim donned a pearl-adorned Schiaparelli design inspired by her recent trip to Karl Lagerfeld’s office in Paris.
Kim’s sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, also captivated at the fashion event. Kendall wore a black and silver sequin bodysuit, while Kylie arrived in a red gown with a red and blue drape.
Rapper Lil Nas X made a fantastical entrance, adorned with pearls and painted silver. Other celebrities collaborated with fashion labels closely linked with Lagerfeld, such as Margot Robbie in Chanel, Allison Williams wearing Patou, Kate Moss in Fendi, and Cara Delevingne in a Lagerfeld Couture design.
Rihanna appeared in a stunning all-white gown, while an expectant Serena Williams donned a form-fitting black dress draped with strands of pearls. Doja Cat paid tribute to Choupette with cat-inspired makeup and a glittering silver gown. Dua Lipa looked elegant in a white corseted Chanel dress worn by Claudia Schiffer in 1992, while Lila Moss chose a peach gown from one of Lagerfeld’s last Fendi collections. Olivia Wilde turned heads in a memorable violin dress from Lagerfeld’s 1983 collection.
The night was truly unforgettable.
