A man accused of using an ax to kill his sister-in-law and her nine-year-old daughter in New Jersey has been arrested and charged.

Everoy L. Morrison, 44, faces two counts of first-degree murder, car theft, and several weapons charges following the brutal slayings in late April.

Police discovered the bloodied bodies of Kiesha Morrison, 45, and her daughter Kelsey under a mattress in Kelsey’s bedroom. Officers were called to the family’s Roselle home for a welfare check after the mother and daughter were reported missing on April 18. Initially, investigators believed the victims were bludgeoned to death, but later discovered the use of an ax as the murder weapon.

Kiesha Morrison’s stolen BMW was found after locating the victims’ bodies. Police traced the vehicle to Maryland, where they pulled over and arrested Morrison for possession of the stolen car. Investigators subsequently identified him as the murder suspect.

Reports indicate that the murders followed a domestic dispute in the home of Kiesha and her husband, Gary Morrison. Everoy Morrison had been living in his brother’s home for two years but was recently asked by Kiesha to move out. The family suspected that Everoy was jealous of his brother’s life.

Gary Morrison found the murder weapon, a bloody ax, hidden between the mattresses in his bedroom. Gary’s sister, Atash Scott, said the floor appeared as if someone had tried to clean up the blood, because it looked like it was swirled around.

Law enforcement officials have not revealed any potential motive for the brutal killings.
