A man was killed during an argument over a parking spot in a residential neighborhood in NYC.
Christopher Hightower, a 58-year-old resident of Jamaica, Queens, was killed during a parking disagreement with a neighbor last year. The NYC medical examiner has recently determined that his death was a homicide.
Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his life, Hightower had always managed to surmount them, except for this final one. In May last year, he was assaulted by his neighbor, causing severe injuries that ultimately led to his death the next day, according to the police.
The medical examiner declared Hightower’s death a homicide, as he had sustained blunt force trauma to his head and body. During the incident, Hightower was heavily intoxicated and suffered a head injury as well as a lacerated spleen. The police said that his neighbor, known for a violent temperament, brutally attacked him over the parking issue.
Hightower’s former wife, Monique Hightower, expressed shock that a street brawl claimed his life, stating that God had always enabled him to bounce back. She described him as a responsible man who ensured bills were paid and his children were provided for. Monique mentioned that Hightower had become a man of God, which was a sign of his growth. Although they had separated, she claimed her love for him never waned.
While the police have identified a suspect, no arrests have been made. The neighbor who assaulted Hightower claimed he was defending his family, alleging that Hightower appeared on his property inebriated and posed a threat when confronted. Hightower’s aunt, who witnessed the conclusion of the dispute, refuted the neighbor’s version of events, accusing him of lying.
Hightower, a father of six, had been employed by Amazon and UPS prior to his death. Monique revealed that they had married twice but divorced again due to his struggles with drugs and alcohol. She believed their love was fated, but his addictions created a barrier between them. In the end, she knew he loved her, and his life’s journey had led him to become a man of God.
