Hillary Clinton’s Surprising Words on Biden’s Age

Hillary Clinton, during a recent event, acknowledged that President Biden’s age might affect his electability in the upcoming 2024 election, yet she advocated for voters to support him despite this.

Speaking at the Financial Times Weekend Festival in Washington, 75-year-old Clinton addressed doubts about the 80-year-young President’s fitness for office, conceding that, “His age is an issue, and people have every right to consider it.”  Her comments were in response to a question regarding Biden’s stumble on the stairs during the G-7 summit in Hiroshima.

While admitting that such incidents are worrying, Clinton underscored that similar missteps have happened with younger presidents without causing significant concern. She acknowledged Biden’s intent to seek re-election and encouraged voters to evaluate his performance rather than comparing him solely to other potential candidates.

Notably, Donald Trump, is only four years younger than Biden.

The former Secretary of State lauded Biden’s efforts towards job creation, economic growth, and future-oriented strategic planning, particularly referencing initiatives like the CHIPS program. Clinton expressed her hope that Biden would remain focused and competitive in the election, believing he is capable of securing another term.

White House officials have consistently downplayed concerns surrounding the President’s age and cognitive sharpness. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre previously insisted that questioning Biden’s capabilities is inappropriate, emphasizing his tireless work ethic and commitment to serving the American people.

Nonetheless, recent polls illustrate public doubt regarding Biden’s mental agility and physical condition. A Washington Post-ABC News survey showed that 63% of Americans believe Biden is not mentally equipped to govern effectively, while 62% think his physical fitness is lacking. Among Democrats, nearly 60% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll agreed that Biden is too old to work in government.

President Biden underwent his annual physical examination in February, and passed with flying colors. His physician pronounced him to be a “healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male.”
