A Florida teacher and mom was found dead alongside her fiancé in an apparent murder-suicide.

Police say they responded to the cries of the couple’s infant daughter.

The lifeless bodies of Amanda Hicks, 26, and an unidentified adult male were discovered on the floor of their home at the Peacock Run apartments in Port St. Lucie. Upon arrival at the scene around 11:45 am on Saturday, May 27, officers could hear the sound of a baby crying from inside the locked apartment.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department was contacted by a relative of the male resident who requested a welfare check. Based on the evidence, authorities believe the deceased male stabbed Hicks to death before shooting himself.

Fortunately, Hicks’ daughter was found unharmed in her crib. She is now under the care of a family member. Hicks was a teacher at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School at the time of her death.

While the police have not officially released the names of the individuals involved, the school’s principal, Darcia Borel, shared a memo with staff members confirming that Hicks was the female victim of the homicide.

Although the last day of the school year for Martin County Schools was Friday, counselors will be available on campus Tuesday to support students who wish to discuss this sudden tragedy.

A close friend of Hicks, Raquel Magallon, fondly described her as passionate about working with children. Magallon remembered her infectious smile, boundless energy, and vibrant personality, expressing shock and sadness over this senseless act.
