An owner of a crocodile farm lost his life while attempting to handle one of his crocodiles.

Local police chief Mey Savry confirmed the occurrence at Luan Nam’s crocodile farm in Siem Reap commune, Cambodia. Nam was 72 years old.

As reported by Viral Press, Nam entered the enclosure intending to move a crocodile that had laid eggs. The situation took a fatal turn when the animal made a sudden movement towards the stick Nam was holding, making him lose his footing and fall.

The ensuing attack by a group of about 40 crocodiles resulted in Nam’s death. Chief Savry described the incident as a horrific accident and the crocodiles’ onslaught as relentless.

The grim aftermath of the attack, depicted in photographs, shows the crocodiles moving through a pool of Nam’s blood. Distressing video footage captured the painstaking removal of Nam’s remains by officials.

Chief Savry confirmed that the post-mortem examination revealed multiple bite marks on Nam’s body, and that his arms and a leg were devoured by the crocodiles.

The body was returned to his home, where his bereaved family awaited. Nam, aside from being a crocodile farmer, was the local crocodile farmers’ association’s president. He had been urged over the years to quit the risky profession.

Sadly, this was not the first such incident in Cambodia. In 2019, a two-year-old girl was fatally attacked by crocodiles after accidentally falling into a pit on her family’s farm.
