A Sheriff’s Office deputy sacrificed her life to save her young son.

A vicious dog attack in Marion County, Indianapolis resulted in the death of Tamieka White. She sustained fatal injuries while trying to protect her eight-year-old son from the attacking dogs on Tuesday night, May 9.

Police found White in the garage area of her Indianapolis home and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her son, who was also attacked, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. According to Brittany Seligman, White’s commander, White died while protecting her son from the animal attack in her home.

When officers arrived at the scene, multiple dogs were present, and they shot a dog described as “actively aggressive.” However, it is unclear if the dog that was shot was the same one that attacked White and her son. Police called the Indianapolis Animal Care Services for assistance, and the agency took three live dogs, one dead dog, and one cat from the home.

White, who had worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office since 2007, was described by local officials as courageous and dedicated. She recently served in their Judicial Enforcement Division. Her colleagues remembered her as a bright light to everyone, and the Sheriff’s office vowed to uphold her memory.

Unfortunately, this dog attack is one of several deadly incidents across the United States this year. In early May, a nine-month-old baby was killed, and a 49-year-old woman was seriously injured in an Iowa dog attack.

In January, dog attacks in Louisiana and Idaho resulted in the deaths of a seven-year-old girl and a young boy, respectively.

In February, a man in his 80s died, and three others were wounded in a Texas dog attack.

In March, a Pennsylvania woman died after getting attacked by a neighbor’s dog.
