A missing woman from Jacksonville, Florida, has been found dead after law enforcement officials recovered the car she was believed to have been driving when she disappeared, submerged in a pond with a woman’s body inside.
On Monday afternoon, authorities retrieved a 2021 gray Toyota Camry from a pond in Palm Coast, Florida. Inside the vehicle, they discovered the body of a woman and the medical examiner later confirmed that it was Erica Bergeron, a 49-year-old woman who was reported missing on Thursday, April 20. She was last seen driving the same vehicle found in the pond.
Bergeron was last seen at Palm Coast Lanes bowling alley on Thursday, April 20, driving a 2021 gray Toyota Camry rental car. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved off the road, hit a nearby tree, and plunged into the pond while traveling northwest on Palm Harbor Parkway. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the gray Toyota Camry recovered from the pond was the same vehicle that Bergeron was driving when she disappeared.
On Monday at around 7:30 pm, the sheriff’s office announced that they were no longer searching for Bergeron. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unknown, and it is unclear what caused the vehicle to veer off the road. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
