A tragic incident unfolded at Stewart Funeral Home in the Northeast section of Washington, DC on April 11. The shooting occurred just after a funeral service for Stephon Lamont Carroll, 24, who was murdered on March 24 in Southeast DC. Police officers arrived at the funeral home after receiving reports of a shooting around 12:15 p.m.

Responding officers found two men and two women who had been shot as funeral attendees were leaving the building. A 29-year-old man identified as Terrell Coghill was pronounced dead at the scene, and police transported the other three victims to local hospitals where they were treated for life-threatening injuries.

The Metropolitan Police Department is now searching for a white Lexus IS350 car, which was captured on surveillance footage at the crime scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward. The department described the car as potentially damaged at the bottom of the front passenger door.

Police Chief Robert J. Contee III has expressed uncertainty about why the shooting occurred and specific people were targeted. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not made any arrests at this time.

The police department is offering a $25,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction related to Carroll’s murder. The shooting at the funeral home has further heightened concerns about violence in the city, where homicide rates have increased significantly in recent years.
