The suspect in the brutal killings of four Idaho University students last year, Bryan Kohberger, is causing fallout for his family.
Both his sisters, Melissa and Amanda Kohberger, have lost their jobs following their brother’s arrest last year.
Kohberger was arrested at his family home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania after allegedly murdering Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. He and his father traveled across the country from Idaho to the family’s home in Pennsylvania for the Christmas holidays following the murder.
Kohberger will return to court on June 26. He could face the death penalty.
In a press release issued in January, the family stated that they would stand by their son and brother despite the accusations leveled against him and the overwhelming evidence pointing to his guilt.
Kohberger’s family is still dealing with the chaos in their own lives from his arrest.
Melissa Kohberger, a mental health school counselor, and Amanda, an actress, both lost their jobs. According to reports, the family’s financial situation is dire.
Kohberger’s family has not visited him across the country since he was arrested, but they have been in touch by phone. The suspect is isolated in jail in Idaho, but he is granted some privileges, such as access to a TV. A fellow prisoner says that Kohberger obsessively watches news reports about himself throughout the day.
Kohberger is kept in isolation due to the horrific nature of his crimes, which would make him a target if he were housed with other inmates.
