Mexican authorities made a shocking discovery on Monday, April 3, when four dead bodies were found near a beachside hotel on Kukulcan Boulevard in Cancun.
All of the victims were Mexican nationals and allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics.
Two suspects were arrested after local police reviewed security camera footage, but the cause of death is still under investigation.
The prosecutor’s office revealed that three of the bodies were found in a lot near the hotel, and the fourth body was found in the same lot later.
Polo Gallegos, a tourist who was at a nearby gym when the incident occurred, heard gunshots at around 10 am. He, along with others at the gym, were kept in an office until the situation was under control.
The police and Navy responded to the scene, which caused nervousness among tourists.
This is just one of several violent incidents that have occurred along the Caribbean coast. In response to a spike in violence linked to organized crime, the Mexican government announced that the National Guard would be permanently deployed to the area in 2021. However, Cancun’s security situation has continued to deteriorate, and this latest incident is further evidence of the ongoing problem.

Two Canadian nationals were murdered in their Playa del Carmen hotel room last year, and two American tourists were killed in Tulum in 2021 after getting caught in a gunfight between rival drug dealers.
These incidents are a grave concern for the tourism industry in Mexico, and drug-related violence poses a significant threat to Mexico’s economic stability.
