Reporters got to see some of Dick Van Dyke’s injuries from his recent Malibu car accident, and he told them the incident left him “sore all over.”

The 97-year-old actor/comedian was seen out and about with a friend and his 51-year-old wife Arlene Silver. Two stitches from the accident last week were visible on Van Dyke’s chin.

In a video posted on Friday, March 24, the famous Mary Poppins star reassured fans that he was okay despite being bruised.

Van Dyke made fun of the injuries on his chin, telling reporters that his Lexus’s airbags had not opened when he crashed into the gate, causing him to hit the steering wheel, making him a little “dumber.”

Van Dyke laughed off the reporters’ worries and assured them he was fine while flashing his signature grin.

Van Dyke reiterated earlier remarks in which he expressed thanks for still being alive and joy over the fact that he is still able to have fun.

On March 15, Van Dyke plowed his silver Lexus into a gate in Malibu. Because of the recent rains in California, the road may have been slippery and wet when he lost control of the car.

In pictures taken at the scene of the accident, the renowned actor’s mouth and nose were covered in blood. He refused to go to the hospital after paramedics examined him, so a friend drove him home. The actor appeared to be in good spirits in spite of the accident.

Despite the fact that the police determined that alcohol and drug use did not contribute to the collision, Van Dyke was still compelled to retake his driving test.

About ten years ago, Van Dyke was involved in another incident in which his car caught fire and was totally destroyed. In 2013, he was driving when he noticed smoke coming from the hood of his car. He pulled over and was saved by a bystander just as his car was being consumed by flames.
