A 79-year-old man is facing murder charges after being arrested for the fatal shooting of his neighbor.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ettore Lacchei was taken into custody without incident at his residence in Antioch, Illinois near the Wisconsin state line. The arrest is in connection with the shooting of 59-year-old William Martys, which took place on April 12.
On the night of the incident, Antioch police received a 911 call about an unresponsive man in a North Black Oak Drive driveway. Investigators revealed that Martys owned a construction company and was found by employees shortly after the shooting.
According to the Sheriff’s office, the dispute began when Lacchei approached Martys, who was using a leaf blower in his yard. The argument escalated, and Lacchei shot Martys in the head with a gun.
Despite emergency medical personnel’s life-saving efforts at the scene, Martys was later pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Police discovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting near Lacchei’s property line.
The Sheriff’s office revealed that Lacchei had multiple perceived grievances with Martys and had previous confrontations with various neighbors on the same street. Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Chris Covelli informed a local news outlet that Lacchei had been seen with a firearm before.
Lacchei now faces two counts of first-degree murder and is being held in the Lake County jail. He will remain in custody until his initial court hearing.
