Another family is grieving the loss of a loved one due to a ferocious dog pack attack.
In a heartbreaking incident, a 22-year-old man from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, tragically lost his life after being mauled by four dogs he was caring for while their owners were away.
The Brooklyn Center Police Department reported that the horrifying attack took place on Thursday, April 13. A concerned neighbor contacted the police after hearing the young man, identified as Dezmond Thomas Trawick, desperately screaming for help while being assaulted by the dogs.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the dogs relentlessly attacking Trawick. In an effort to save him, an officer fired a less-lethal round at one of the dogs, which caused the others to flee and brought the attack to an end.
Despite being rushed to North Memorial Medical Center for emergency treatment, Trawick sadly succumbed to his extensive injuries. An autopsy performed by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Trawick’s identity and deemed his death accidental. The report detailed the severity of the attack, noting that the dogs had inflicted wounds all over Trawick’s body and torn away most of his clothing.
The police have not documented any prior incidents involving these particular dogs. The four American Pit Bull Terrier breed dogs were not permanent residents at the location where the attack took place; they were temporarily there while Trawick looked after them for a family member.
As authorities continue to investigate the tragic event, they remain in contact with the dogs’ owners, who may face criminal charges. The dogs are currently held at Pets Under Police Security (PUPS), a facility used by police departments to accommodate animals while determining their future. The fate of the dogs, including the possibility of euthanasia, remains uncertain.
