A 10-year-old boy lost his life after a fight with another child.
A tragic incident at Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park in Merced, California has left a 10-year-old boy, Anthony Duran, dead after a fight with another child.
Witnesses said they saw the boy playing basketball with other kids when he and another child got into a fight.
Security cameras at the trampoline park captured the incident, and 35 witnesses provided statements to the police. The other child involved in the fight ran away but was later identified by the police, who have been in touch with his parents.
Duran had an active lifestyle and loved sports like football, boxing, and basketball. His family said he had no known health issues prior to his collapse and subsequent death.
In response to the incident, the Merced Police Department arrived on the scene and transported the boy to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he died three days later.
The police are currently investigating the incident and cooperating with the District Attorney’s office to determine whether or not charges will be filed against the other child.
Duran’s family and friends have expressed frustration with the investigation, as they have not been allowed to look at the security footage and believe that the police have not taken swift enough action.
To raise awareness and seek justice for their son, Duran’s family and friends held a press conference outside the trampoline park wearing t-shirts that read “Justice for Anthony Duran” with his image on them, calling for the police to work harder and provide answers.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office has yet to announce the cause of Duran’s death, and the police department has not filed any charges related to the incident. There have been no updates on the case from the police department.
Duran’s family decided to donate his organs, which will help at least four other children. An honor walk at Valley Children’s Hospital paid tribute to Duran and his family after his mother, who is a nurse, made the decision to donate his organs.
