Wild Crash in Colorado Caught on Dash Cam

A couple driving along an interstate in Colorado blames a huge pothole in the road for a car accident that almost cost them their lives.

A vehicle driving behind them during the crash captured the incident on its dash camera.

The couple said the pothole caused the camper trailer they were hauling with their pickup to spin out of control. According to them, the ordeal did not stop there, as police responding to the accident site gave them a ticket for careless driving, even though they did nothing wrong and broke no laws.

The couple, Thomas Kuemmel and his fiancée Leslie Brock said that they were going east toward Denver on Interstate 70 at less than the speed limit when the scary incident happened. They were nearing the Loveland Ski Area when they suddenly felt themselves spinning out of control. That’s when they knew that something was wrong.

Brock, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, told the media that everything was fine one minute, and the next minute, the trailer started to jerk after hitting the pothole causing them to lose control of their pickup truck.

Brock said it was a scary experience and she thought she was going to die.

The driver said he felt a big jerk, and then the trailer started pushing on the pickup truck and he lost control and spun out on the road.

Kuemmel and his fiancée’s woes continued when the Colorado State Patrol showed up and thought they were purposely driving recklessly. The driver tried to explain to the troopers that a huge pothole near the accident scene had caused the crash. The trooper gave them a ticket in spite of their pleas.

Ironically, just two days after the accident, the Colorado Transportation Department shut down the highway to repair a huge pothole in the same area.

It was not confirmed if the pothole repaired was the same one that caused the accident. Brock and Kuemmel said that the accident would never have happened if the authorities had fixed the pothole sooner.

After the story hit the news on Wednesday, readers and viewers contacted Problem Solvers, and said that the potholes on that part of I-70 had been a problem for a long time.

Kuemmel will appear in court in May to fight his citation.
