Actress Reese Witherspoon is upset over her breakup with husband Jim Toth and says never saw herself going through another divorce.
The 47-year-old Oscar-winning actress announced on Friday, March 24, that she and her husband of twelve years, Jim Toth, are separating. The actress and Toth, 52, share a ten-year-old son, Tennessee.
Witherspoon is also mother to two other older children, Ava Phillippe, 23, and Deacon Phillippe, 19, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Ryan Phillippe.
A source close to Witherspoon said that she was disappointed and upset over her second marriage ending because she thought things would work out.
The source said that the split was amicable and that their son Tennessee remained their top priority, adding that they would continue to co-parent without any drama.
Witherspoon and Toth’s relationship moved fast after they first met. According to the source, Witherspoon was over the moon about the attention he gave her and was excited to marry him. However, the two were very different people, with Witherspoon being headstrong and focused and Toth being a bit more laid back.
It was difficult for Witherspoon to reach the point of no return on their marriage, but they sat down and concluded that separation was best for both of them.
Witherspoon and ex-spouse Phillippe, now 48 years old, began dating before they made their 1999 movie “Cruel Intentions.” The couple eventually tied the knot in June 1999 and had two children before announcing their split in 2006.
Phillippe said during an interview that their divorce was the worst time in his life.
Witherspoon also said the same thing during a 2014 interview on “60 Minutes.” She said it had been a tough year for her after her divorce, and she spent the next few years simply trying to feel a bit better.
She also said that the struggles in her personal life affected her career, adding that she was not feeling creative at the time.
After her first divorce, Witherspoon went on to date Jake Gyllenhaal, but they broke up in 2009. Witherspoon and Toth met at a party the same year and married in 2011.
Witherspoon and Toth shared a joint statement on social media on Friday announcing their decision to divorce and saying it came after a lot of thought and consideration.
