A Philadelphia drive-by shooting shocked the city after a man was massacred gangster-style on Saturday, March 11, hit by around 70 bullets on his front porch, police said.
The horrific shooting incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday in Philadelphia’s Tioga neighborhood, according to the Philadelphia police.
Neighbors who heard the shots called 911, and responding officers were at the residence within minutes. Officers found the victim with numerous gunshot wounds all over his body.
Police later identified the victim as 25-year-old Dhalsim Jackson-Mayes. First responders rushed him to the Temple University Hospital, but he succumbed to his extensive wounds. Doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital.
According to Philadelphia police, officers found several shell casings on the front porch but did not recover any weapons. They are still investigating a motive for the shooting and have not yet made any arrests.
According to Philadelphia Police Department statistics, as of Monday, March 13, there have been 84 homicide cases in Philadelphia this year. The number is down 18% compared to the same time last year when there were 102 homicides in the same period.
The statistics also show that the city had 516 reported homicides in 2022, a decrease from 562 homicides in 2021.
The last fatal shooting in Tioga happened on January 15 in front of a corner store. Police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds at around 4 am. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, and police are still investigating the case.
Year-to-date, citywide shooting incidents in Philadelphia were 571 as of Sunday, March 12, with 294 shooting victims. Both numbers are down about 25% from the same time last year.
