A Texas woman killed three of her children and seriously injured two more after a surprise visit from a social worker who determined it was better for the children to be removed from the home.

Ellis County Police charged 25-year-old Shamaiya Hall with three counts of capital murder after the fatal stabbing of her three children on Friday, March 3, in Italy, Texas, south of Dallas.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s office released a statement saying the woman was being held on a $2 million bond at Wayne McCollum Detention Center on each charge.

The caseworker showed up unannounced at Hall’s home in the south of Dallas on Friday afternoon after suspecting that the mother was having unsupervised visits with the children. Child Protective Services had previously stripped Hall of custody of all five kids under six and had given guardianship to a relative.

Deputy Jerry Cozby with the Ellis County Sheriff’s office said the caseworker called them at around 4 pm on Friday, asking them to take the kids.

Responding officers arrived at the home and found five stabbed children inside. Amongst them were a six-year-old boy and five-year-old twins, a girl and boy, dead at the scene. Officers also found a four-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl critically wounded and transported them to nearby hospitals.

The Texas Rangers will assist the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Hall has previously served time in prison after getting convicted of property crimes and several assaults.
