A Florida man shot himself in the head as the police tried to take him into custody after pulling him over in Boynton Beach, Florida.

The shocking incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, near the intersection of Congress Avenue and Woolbright Road in Boynton Beach, after the man was pulled over for driving the wrong way.

According to police officers from the Boynton Beach Police Department, they had been prompted to take action when they saw the vehicle driving west on the eastbound road lanes.

Muhannad Ibrahim, 33, stopped his car after officers flagged him down and asked for his identification, license, and registration, in accordance with standard procedure.  The police officers then learned that he had an open warrant for domestic battery from an incident the day before in Palm Springs.

The police department released body cam footage of the incident, which showed the man struggling with the officers after they asked him to step out of his car.

The footage also shows Ibrahim holding a gun, which the officers said had been concealed in his waistband. He is seen waving the weapon as the officers try to pull him out of the car.

As the police and the man struggle, Ibrahim falls to the ground, still holding the gun. The video ends shortly after Ibrahim falls but police said that the suspect then raised the firearm to his chin and shot himself in an apparent suicide attempt.

The police department also included a message in the video to the public saying that they had released the body cam footage to inform people of the many dangers that law enforcement officers face, adding that nothing is typical or just routine.

Officers promptly took the man to a nearby hospital, where they said he was in critical but stable condition.

Ibrahim will face several charges as soon as he is out of the hospital, including carrying a concealed gun, improperly exhibiting a gun, and resisting arrest without violence. None of the officers were injured during the incident.
