James Biden, the brother of President Joseph Biden, is in the news, possibly making problems for his brother or it’s just another smear campaign.
He denies that he was hired to assist in settling a $140 million dispute between a US construction business and the Saudi government, despite certified documents claiming otherwise.
According to court documents released on February 14, James Biden told a private investigator in 2017 that he was frequently chosen to represent Philadelphia-based Hill International during meetings with the Saudis.
A representative for James Biden sent a statement to The New York Post stating that Mr. Biden never engaged with the Saudi government on behalf of Hill or any other organization. They added that the entire story is just another attempt to create a scandal.
The first brother’s alleged connection with Hill was mentioned in two affidavits made in May 2021 as part of a dispute with one of three law firms Hill had engaged in recovering millions owed by the Saudis for a desalination facility.
In court documents originally acquired by DailyMail.com, the legal firm Lankford & Reed asserts that Hill International recruited James Biden in 2011 to settle the issue covertly and avoid paying Lankford the 40% cut specified in their contract.
In July 2017, Thomas Sullivan, a former Treasury Department employee turned private investigator, visited James Biden at his suburban Philadelphia home to question him about his suspected role in the Hill transaction. James Biden’s wife Sara allegedly informed Sullivan that her husband and his older brother Joe were close and confided in each other as she accompanied him to his car.
Thomas Lankford, a partner at Lankford & Reed, said Hill International CEO Irvin Richter informed him that he had recruited James Biden because he would be important to the deal.
President Biden has consistently denied knowing about his family’s international business dealings. The affidavits were made public as the House Oversight Committee, now chaired by the Republicans, continued to look into the first family’s possible influence peddling.
