A man from Ireland died after being attacked by a rooster.

The Irish Examiner revealed that, according to a recent inquest, an Irish man diagnosed with cancer and in remission died as a result of a nasty bird attacking him in his farmhouse.

Jasper Kraus passed away in April of last year after being severely injured in the rooster attack.

At a hearing to determine the man’s cause of death, Detective Garda Eoin Browne stated that Kraus’ tenant in Killahornia, Ireland had informed him of the incident. First responders performed CPR on Kraus, but he was pronounced dead on the spot.

According to Detective Browne, Kraus was located on the ground in a pool of blood with injuries to his legs.

Virginia Guinan, Kraus’ daughter, said that when she visited the residence earlier in the day, she observed her father asleep. She did not want to wake him because she knew he was still not feeling well and taking medication.

Corey O’Keeffe, the deceased man’s tenant, called her later that day to inform her of the attack. When she arrived at the residence, she was shocked by her father’s injuries. The television was on, and a cigarette was still lit.

The daughter said in court that a blood trail going to the chicken coop was visible, and one of the birds had blood on its beak and claws. She was convinced that the rooster that had killed her father was the same one that had attacked her young daughter a few months previously and then had been relocated to the farm.

According to O’Keeffe’s court testimony, he arrived home at 8 a.m., fed the animals, and then retired to bed. As soon as he heard Kraus’s cries for help, he rushed to his aid and observed his wounds.

He performed CPR on Kraus for over 25 minutes prior to the arrival of the ambulance workers, per the directions of the operator.

Dr. Annette Jennings testified that Kraus was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m. despite the attempts of paramedics to save his life.
