Despite the commercial’s success, not all of his real-life clients were satisfied with his customer service.
The video features the actor working at a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through window in Medford, Massachusetts, and he said that there are both scripted and unscripted versions of the commercial.
During an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the actor said that, in certain improvised situations, customers became angry with his lack of service skills.
The notoriously short-tempered Affleck told the Wall Street Journal that he was accepting his fate because, after all, he was in Boston. Some of the people he spoke with, he added, were “coarse and aggressive” and not afraid to use “colorful language” to communicate their dissatisfaction with him.
Affleck has spoken highly of the results of the improvisational takes.
Although the footage of the customer yelling at Affleck in a “colorful fashion” has not yet been made public, Dunkin’ Donuts has released some edited versions of the incident to their YouTube account.
In the YouTube clip, confused customers perk up when they realize that it’s Affleck taking their orders from behind the window.
Affleck, speaking with a thicker Boston accent than usual, tells a customer that using the equipment was more difficult than it seemed. He tried to mess with another customer by telling him they were out of donuts and coffee and only had water.
Towards the video’s conclusion, the actor pokes fun at himself by saying that he is not a typical Dunkin’ Donuts worker and that most of the staff are brighter than he is.
Dunkin’ Donuts is a favorite of Affleck’s, and the actor is often spotted with a coffee and treat from the chain.
According to the source, Affleck was approached by Dunkin’ Donuts to star in one of their advertisements. When asked to shoot the commercial in a boardroom, he instead suggested doing it through a drive-through.
Affleck also directed the commercial.
The commercial, which aired on Sunday night during the Super Bowl, included Jennifer Lopez, Affleck’s wife.
