An eight-year-old boy from Sydney, Australia on vacation with his family at the Club Wyndham Resort on Denarau Island in Fiji was found electrocuted in a garden at the resort on February 9.
According to witnesses, the child had been playing in the garden “chasing frogs,” when he was electrocuted by a live wire from a lamp post.
The boy was found by a guest at the resort and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Nadi, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy done on the boy confirmed that he died by electrocution.
It has been reported that it was not the first time someone experienced an electric shock at the Club Wyndham resort in Fiji.
In June last year, an Australian man staying at the resort took pictures showing evidence of light fixtures on a garden path that was wet after a rain. The man said he got a powerful electric shock when he touched one of the fixtures.
He said he told the hotel staff about it.
In a statement, the resort said it had located and roped off the area where the incident occurred and assured guests that there were no additional risks.
The resort declined to comment on the allegations made by the Australian guest last year.
