38-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Closet – Latest in Surge of Violent Crime In NYC

A woman was found dead hidden in a closet with a bag over her head inside a community center on Pitkin Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn, New York, police announced.

Officers from the New York Police Department were called to the Housing Works East New York Health Center at around 10:30 am on Monday, February 27. Responding officers found the woman unresponsive.

The NYPD did not publicly identify the victim or give any information about her death.

A spokesman said that they considered the unidentified woman’s death suspicious and would investigate it. An autopsy is pending.

The Housing Works East New York Health Center is a community center providing proper health care to people with HIV/AIDS.

In December 2022, a 43-year-old woman was found dead in her Brooklyn apartment. She had been strangled, and her body had been in the apartment for months before being discovered. The woman, identified as Tamara Graham, was found decomposing in her apartment in a Housing Authority development in Crown Heights.

In January, 2023, a 60-year-old woman, who neighbors said was always fighting with her boyfriend, was found dead in her Brooklyn home. Her 62-year-old boyfriend told a friend about finding a dead body in the woman’s apartment in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn. He then barricaded himself inside and stabbed himself in the chest, which he survived, and he was arrested for the woman’s  murder.
