A Connecticut man who jumped to his death from Bar 54 at the Hyatt Centric Times Square in New York City on Wednesday 6:30 p.m. has been identified as Dale L. Cheney, 46.

According to the New York City Police Department, the death is being considered a suicide. People at the bar confirmed that Cheney jumped.

Chris Piralta, a parking staff worker employed near the location of the incident said that he first heard a small bump, then a bigger boom. Nino Rodrigues, another parking employee, confirmed this, saying that he heard a “big crack.”

Cheney was a father of three children. According to reports, he had just finished filing a divorce from his wife, Lauren Cheney, on Tuesday, a day before his death.

In 2013, Cheney founded T-Street Capital, an independent growth equity firm working with entrepreneurs located in Darien, Connecticut. He also served as a board member and an investor in other companies.

Cheney was previously employed at Citicorp Venture Capital and Goldman Sachs. He graduated from Harvard University with a master’s degree in business administration.

Hyatt Centric Times Square General Manager Tom Blundell expressed their condolences through a statement. He also shared that the company was working with the police in the investigation, and hope to ensure the safety of their guests by locking the door to the bar’s outdoor space.
