A newlywed couple in Texas were having marital problems, but no one expected the scene that sheriff’s deputies discovered on January 11.

After a 911 call from a distraught man, deputies arrived at a rural home in Waller County and found the decapitated body of a young woman. She had been killed by her new husband.

The deceased woman was identified as 21-year-old Anggy Diaz.

The Waller County Sheriff, Troy Guidry, told reporters they arrested her husband of three months, Jared James Dicus, and charged him with her murder.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a 911 call from Dicus’ father about a murder in the house on Oak Hollow Blvd around 4:30 pm. They found the horrifying scene inside the home Diaz shared with her husband, next door to his parents’ house.

Dicus used a kitchen knife to kill his wife. There had been earlier calls about domestic disturbances in the home, but no one suspected the gruesome outcome.

Friends of Diaz spoke to reporters and said that she was from Nicaragua and had been working two jobs to save money to pay for her mother’s cancer treatment in her native country.

She was described by colleagues as a hardworking and joyful young woman who always had a smile on her face.

Sheriff Guidry said the young woman’s head, severed from her body, was found in the house. It is not clear how long she had been dead.

Dicus’s father and mother had entered his son’s house because he had a bad feeling. He was right.

Dicus and his parents waited for the officers to arrive and were taken into custody for questioning. Dicus confessed to killing and decapitating his wife.

The couple was married in October 2022 after meeting at her work. Her friends said they suspected something was wrong between them, but murder was the furthest thing from their minds.

According to social media posts by the couple, they appeared to be happy.
