“This is how it ends for us,” Christopher Wood told his estranged wife on Thursday night.
On Friday morning, 51-year-old Christopher Wood and his 14-year-old daughter, Ava Wood, were found dead in their Baldwinsville, New York apartment, in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.
Ava’s mother called the police when the school informed her that the girl, who was a ninth grader at Durgee Junior High, did not go to school that day. The police went to do a welfare check at 6 Triangle Place at 8:30 am on Friday morning.
The teenage girl was found on her bed, dead from a gunshot wound. Wood was found in another room, dead from what looked like a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the police, Wood must have shot Ava first, and killed himself afterwards.
Reports said that Ava’s parents were having domestic problems previously, one of which involved stalking in March 2022. The two were living separately, with Ava mostly living with her father. The parents apparently got into an argument a day before the incident.
Ava was a student-athlete at her upstate New York Junior High School. Aside from maintaining her spot on the honor roll, she was also part of the Girls’ Junior Varsity Soccer Team as well as the Track and Field Team.
The school’s Acting Superintendent, Joseph DeBarberi, shared the news to the school through an email to the parents. He also said that the district’s Crisis Response Team will be “providing support and counseling to students and staff.”
Friends have continued to pay tribute to the 14-year-old girl on her Instagram account. The police are investigating the incident.
