A robbery attempt by a Georgia man went extremely wrong when he slipped on an icy patch as business employees were trying to fend him off, making him hit his head on the ground and lose consciousness, according to the police.
The robbery, which happened on Christmas Day, has now been compared to a scene from the popular Christmas comedy movie, “Home Alone.”
The incident began at around 1 am on Christmas day when Luis Sajbocho-Ordonez, 30, allegedly hid behind a Gainesville company, about 50 miles from Atlanta. He pulled out a gun and pointed it at an employee who had walked outside from the rear of the building and he demanded money.
The robbery attempt, which happened early Sunday morning behind the business on 415 Atlanta Highway, resulted in the robber and employee getting into a physical fight.
Sajbocho-Ordonez likely realized that his robbery attempt would not be successful, so he tried to flee the scene. As he was running away, he stepped on an icy patch of the road and slipped, knocking himself unconscious.
His mugshot revealed the extent of his injuries, which looked grim and painful. The right side of his face had huge red lashes, and his eye and cheek were swollen. People are comparing his injuries to Marv, a notorious character and robber in the Christmas classic “Home Alone.” The fictional character slipped on ice during numerous attempts to break into the main character’s house.
During the Christmas morning incident, paramedics treated the thief on the scene, and police transported him to the Hall County jail.
Police charged the intruder with aggravated assault and armed robbery and said they could level additional charges against him.
The Gainesville Police Department released a statement on their Facebook page with more information regarding the robbery. Police said that after Sajbocho-Ordonez and the employee, who was not publicly identified, got into a physical altercation, another employee exited the building, which spooked the wannabe robber.
Sajbocho-Ordonez fired a shot. Luckily, no one got hit by the bullet or was injured during the incident. He then hit his head and face on the ice as he tried to make his gateway.
According to the statement, witnesses searched the suspect while he was still unconscious on the ground and found two guns on him, which they confiscated.
Home Alone is a Christmas comedy movie released in 1990. The movie, about a boy who defends his home from a pair of relentless robbers after his family accidentally leaves him behind as they go on their Christmas vacation, was a Christmas hit throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
