In his eagerly awaited memoir that hit the shelves in January, Prince Harry recounts a physical attack from his brother, Prince William, the heir to the British throne, as their relationship took a turn for the worst after Harry’s marriage to American actress Meghan Markle.
In his description of the alleged fight, which happened in 2019 in Harry and Meghan’s London home while Meghan wasn’t present, Harry says that William said Meghan was “rude,” “difficult,” and “abrasive,” which, according to Harry, was a copy of the narrative displayed by the British tabloid media about Meghan.
In an excerpt from the memoir, Prince Harry claimed that the confrontation escalated, and at some point, William assaulted him.
The fight, which resulted in visible cuts and bruises on his back, is just one of the many shocking incidents in the memoir “Spare,” which was released on January 10 and caused a much bigger rift in the family and sparked a huge controversy in public. The British government and public are already very unhappy about all this bad press.
Speaking about the confrontation, Harry writes that his brother wanted to talk about their deteriorating relationship and the struggles they had with the media. But according to Harry, when William got to Nottingham Cottage, where Harry and Meghan were living at the time, he was already riled up.
William complained about Meghan, and Harry defended his wife, telling his brother that he was repeating the press lies about Meghan and that he expected better from him. He writes that William was not reasonable, and their discussion soon led to a confrontation, with the two shouting at each other.
At one point, William stepped toward Harry while swearing. Harry was scared by his brother’s demeanor and quickly ran to the kitchen, but William, now furious, followed.
Harry writes that he tried to calm his brother down by handing him a glass of water, but William set the water down, called Harry another name, and attacked him. Harry said the future king grabbed him by the collar, ripped his necklace, and knocked him down.
Prince Harry landed on the dog’s food bowl, which cracked under his weight and cut him. Harry said he was speechless for a moment, and then he got up and ordered William out of the house. William urged Harry to fight back, but he refused. William left, returned to the house and apologized to Harry.
As William was leaving, he turned and told Harry that he did not need to tell his wife about the confrontation. Although Harry did not immediately tell Meghan, she noticed that he had cuts and bruises on his back, so he told her about it.
According to Harry, Meghan was not surprised or angry but sad.
Two interviews with Prince Harry were aired in January, ahead of the book release.
The Duke spoke with ITV presenter Tom Bradby and accused his family of “getting into bed with the devil.”
In his interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, he said that his family accused Meghan of being a witch.
Harry says that he is no longer in contact with his brother and father.
