A 51-year-old woman from New Jersey was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting her husband on Christmas, resulting in his death, according to police.

Marylue Wigglesworth is accused of murdering her husband, David Wigglesworth, 57, at their home in Mays Landing on Sunday night.

According to a press statement by the prosecutor’s office, at around 10:19 pm on December 25, 2022, the Township of Hamilton Police department responded to a 911 call about a man who had been shot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found David Wigglesworth suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the press statement, the evidence led to the arrest of the man’s wife,  Marylue Wigglesworth. She is being detained at the Atlantic Justice Facility.

Details surrounding the horrible shooting are still scarce and no motive has been offered as to why the accused woman allegedly shot and killed her husband.

The deceased man was an active community member involved in local politics. He ran on the Republican ticket in 2019 for a position on the Township Committee, and lost.

He also served on the local planning board and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City. He is survived by his son.

Friends who knew the couple were shocked by the news. One of the mutual friends on Facebook wrote, “I can’t believe this. Our hearts are completely shattered, we have known Mary and David for years. This can’t be true, prayers for everyone… I’m in complete shock. Rest in peace, Wiggy.”
