Kim Kardashian, 42, a reality show star, beauty mogul, and Skims founder, and Kanye West, 45, rapper and Yeezy owner, have finalized their divorce and agreed on how to take care of their four children and their property.
According to divorce documents, the former celebrity couple agreed on joint custody. Both will have physical and legal custody of their four children, nine-year-old North, six-year-old Saint, four-year-old Chicago, and three-year-old Psalm.
The settlement also states that the Grammy award-winning rapper must pay Kim monthly child support of $200,000. He will also be responsible for half of his children’s expenses, including educational, medical, and security payments.
Both multi-millionaires waived spousal support.
The former couple agreed they would settle disputes about their children by attending mediation. However, if either of them does not attend the mediation meeting or fails to participate, the other parent can decide the dispute by default.
Their property settlement was made easier by a prenup they signed before getting married. The court agreed for them to divide their assets according to regulations set in the prenup.
The couple finalized their divorce nine months after a judge ruled Kim as a legally single person during a bifurcation hearing.
Although Kanye had objected to Kim’s request for a judge to declare her legally single, he eventually came around and, in a statement, said that he had requested his team to act on the dissolution of his and Kim’s marriage so he could focus on his children.
Kim and Kanye began dating ten years ago in 2012 and married two years later in 2014. Their marriage did not show cracks until 2020 when Kanye got involved in a series of public outbursts on Twitter.
During the same year, Kanye launched a controversial presidential bid and revealed some personal details about his marriage and family on his campaign trail. This took a toll on his marriage.
Kim took to Twitter and released a public statement addressing Kanye’s bipolar diagnosis. She asked fans to show them compassion and said the two were in a complicated and painful situation.
Kim filed for divorce after almost seven years of marriage in February 2021. Later that year, in December, she asked a judge to declare her a legally single person. She also asked the judge to separate child custody and property issues from her marital status and to restore her maiden name.
In her February 2021 court filings, the reality star said she wished very much to divorce. She said that despite her requests for Kanye to keep the details of their divorce private, he published a lot of misinformation about family matters and co-parenting on social media, creating a lot of emotional distress for her.
After the divorce settlement on Monday, reporters spotted Kanye picking North up from her school and taking her to a mall on Tuesday.
Although the divorce documents call for the couple’s equal access to the children, Kim will have the children most of the time. In September, Kanye acknowledged that Kim would most likely have the children 80% of the time.
