Prince William has reportedly cut off all contact with his younger brother Prince Harry over the accusations that Prince Harry made in the recently aired Netflix documentary, “Harry and Meghan.”
The break-up news of the brothers is coming from one of Britain’s most known royal correspondents. Roya Nikkhah, a British journalist for the Sunday Times. She wrote in a tweet that Prince William, the future king, severed all communication with his brother. The tweet accompanied a feature article about the fallout of the royal family over the docuseries “Harry and Meghan,” which was released in full last week by Netflix.
Nikkah, a renowned royal correspondent for Sky News, BBC, and many more, cited two close friends of Prince William, who told her that William was unhappy with the damage the series had caused. In the documentary, Prince Harry said that Prince William and his father, King Charles, had screamed at him when the couple met to discuss their plans to quit their royal duties and move away in 2020.
The latter part of the documentary saw the couple put their boxing gloves on as Harry accused William of being in cohorts with British tabloids and conspiring with his staff to plant stories about Meghan and Harry that were damaging to their characters, in order to hide other unsavory stories about the family from media scrutiny.
One of William’s friends told Nikkah the relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex had been strained for a while. After the documentary, William decided to cut off ties with his brother and had no plans to speak to Harry in the future.
The second friend said that the whole ordeal was crazy.
Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the documentary since it came out a few days ago, and Kensington Palace, where Prince William’s press office is based, refused to address the accusations of Prince Harry.
In the documentary’s confessionals, the Duke of Sussex said that his brother’s press office traded stories about him, and especially about his wife, Meghan, with the British press so they would not print unflattering stories about him or the rest of the family.
Harry said he refused to participate in the trades, adding that he would rather get destroyed than play along with the game or the trading gossip business. He said that he and his brother had once made a pact always to have each other’s backs, and they promised never to trade stories about each other to the press.
The Duke expressed his disappointment in his brother for breaking that promise.
Although the public once regarded the brotherly bond between the two princes as unshakable, Harry mourned their damaged relationship saying that the saddest part of the ordeal was the wedge it had created between him and William.
Harry said that even though he understood that William was on the side of the institution because that is his inheritance, he was saddened by the rift it had caused between them.
The Netflix documentary talks about why Harry and Meghan left the UK, and the British media harassment was a big part of their decision. The couple also said they realized the institution was unwilling to protect Meghan from the tabloids, which sealed the deal for them.
