Police Identify 5-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Suitcase and Search For Mother

A resident of Washington County, Indiana made a gruesome discovery earlier this year, inside a suitcase, and the details are just coming to light.

Indiana State Police have now identified the remains of a young boy, Cairo Ammar Jordan, 5-years-old, of Atlanta, Georgia who was found in April in the suitcase.

The suitcase was a hard-shell type and had a Las Vegas design on the front and back. A neighborhood resident hunting for mushrooms in the woods discovered the suitcase in April and called 911.

The medical examiner determined that the child had died from an electrolyte imbalance that police say was probably caused by a stomach virus. The Indian State Police said in a news release that the virus causes inflammation of the digestive tract and results in vomiting and diarrhea, which probably led to dehydration in this boy’s case

The child had no significant injuries that would have resulted from trauma, and his blood tests proved negative for substances that could have caused his death.

The police suspect Cairo’s mother in his death, and issued an arrest warrant for Dejuane Ludie Anderson, 37. She will be charged with murder and child neglect resulting in death and “obstruction of justice,” according to the police.

Police are asking the public for help in apprehending Anderson, who is still at large as of October 31. She is described as black, with short dark brown hair, about 5’5” and weighs approximately 135 lbs. She may try to change her appearance by wearing a wig or a hair extension. She was last seen in Los Angeles.

Suspicion of the boy’s mother comes from several clues and evidence obtained by the police, including comments she said on social media. She wrote that her son was possessed by demons and needed an exorcism. This prompted the Indiana State Police to pursue the probable cause affidavit for Anderson’s arrest.

Another woman, Dawn Elaine Coleman, 40, from Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested in October in connection with the boy’s death. It has not been revealed what the connection is between this woman and the family, but she was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice.

The affidavit says that mobile phones belonging to Anderson and Coleman had been in the area where the boy’s body was dropped. Fingerprints on the suitcase are said to match those of the two women.

After Cairo’s body was found, in June strangers buried him in Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, about 35 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky with an unmarked headstone. A police chaplain led a memorial service and called the unidentified child an “unknown angel.”

Mourners who didn’t know the child felt empathy for him and visited the cemetery and attended the service.

His name has now been added to his headstone.
