Thanksgiving should be a day for basting a turkey, preparing desserts, or making cranberry sauce. However, in New York City, the celebration got off to a bloody start leaving at least one person dead and others injured after a string of shootings and stabbings late Wednesday and early Thursday, police said.

Around 11:30 pm, authorities confirmed that a man was reportedly shot dead near 145th drive and 184th street in the Brookville section of Queens.

When police got to the scene, they found the 40-year-old victim unconscious and unresponsive in the 2018 Nissan Maxima driver’s seat. Upon checking, the victim had gunshot wounds to his chest.

“He must have slammed into a telephone pole after being shot,” police said.

The victim was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center but he didn’t make it and was pronounced dead. The name of the victim has not been released pending family notification.

So far, no arrest has been made, and the motive for the shooting is still unclear.

Around 7:45 pm Wednesday, another man was shot in the chest at Boston Road and East 173rd Street in the Bronx, cops confirmed. The victim was in stable condition and recovering at St. Barnabas Hospital.

In yet another bizarre incident, at 1:20 am Thursday morning, a man was shot in the left leg at Sheridan Avenue and East 165th Street in the Concourse section of the Bronx and was taken to Lincoln Medical Center in critical but stable condition, cops confirmed.

In all the shootings, no arrests have been made, and the circumstances leading to the shootings remain unclear.

Barely two and half hours after the shooting on Sheridan Avenue, a woman stabbed a 28-year-old woman in the arm on West 140th Street and Seventh Avenue in Harlem. The victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. The attacker fled the scene. Authorities could not confirm whether the two women were related and the motive behind the stabbing was unclear.

Two men were stabbed between East 7th Street and First Avenue on the Upper East Side after 11 pm on Wednesday. The men, aged 24 and 35, were chilling out in a group when a fight broke out between them and another man known to them.

As the altercation turned violent, the suspect stabbed the younger man in the groin and the older in the leg and fled the scene.

Police have yet to make any arrests for the tragic scenes witnessed in New York City.
