Prince Harry was notably at Balmoral Castle in Scotland for the passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday night, although he reportedly arrived after she died. His wife, Meghan, was not with him.
This follows what has been a public “falling out” between the royal couple and the rest of the royal family.
Just last week, New York magazine featured an interview, in which Meghan said that a “toxic tabloid culture,” was a strain on the relationship between Harry and his father, Charles, who is now the King.
Harry and Meghan live in California, but were traveling in the United Kingdom at the time of the announcement that the Queen’s health was failing. They were in Europe for charity events.
Meghan is still in London, but will not be attending the charity events. It is still up in the air whether she will attend the funeral, or get back to her children. It has been reported that Kate, William’s wife, may return to her children as well.
Over two years ago, Harry and Meghan decided to decrease their involvement with the rest of the royal family and resigned from their royal duties. They were concerned about media scrutiny of themselves and their children, among other personal issues.
After their move to California, Harry continued to correspond and speak with the Queen, and maintained a relationship with his grandmother.
Prince Harry was the last family member to arrive at Balmoral Castle, where the Queen had been residing in her last days. He was also the first to leave on Friday.
There are hints that Harry is reconciling with his father, King Charles III.
It’s a good thing to be in good graces with the King.
