Michael Jordan Jersey Auctioned for Over $10 Million

jersey that Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan wore during the first game of the 1998 NBA Finals, was purchased at an auction on September 6, for a whopping $10,091,000!  Yep… over $10 million.

That’s an unusual amount of money for a sweaty basketball jersey, although admittedly, after 24 years, it has probably dried.

Experts at the Sotheby’s auction were shocked. They predicted it would sell for around $3-5 million, also quite shocking.

The jersey was rare, but still…

According to the auction house, the sale set a record. It was the highest bid ever for a basketball jersey, and the most ever paid for any sports attire worn at a game. It was also the highest amount ever paid for a Michael Jordan item.

It is documented and can be seen that while wearing the jersey, with the famous 23 on the back, Jordan scored 33 points against Utah Jazz. Even though that game was lost, the Bulls won the series and Jordan had his sixth NBA championship.

The buyer has not been identified… yet. Looks like 23 may be his/her lucky number.
