What was supposed to be the best day for a couple turned into their worst nightmare when the bride lost her life, and the groom suffered severe injuries in a devastating road accident.

Police reported that a drunk driver struck a golf cart carrying a newlywed couple in South Carolina, resulting in the bride’s death and serious injuries to the groom. Samantha “Sam” Hutchinson, 34, was photographed with a radiant smile as she left her wedding reception on Friday evening. Moments later, a drunk driver rear-ended the golf cart carrying Samantha and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, and other wedding guests, from the wedding venue in Folly Beach.

In a GoFundMe post identifying the couple as victims of the collision, the groom’s mother shared the sad account of the incident. She said she received her son’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital hours after the wedding.

Two of the groom’s relatives, Ben Garrett and Brogan Garrett, were driving the golf cart and sustained injuries in the crash. The fundraising page revealed that the golf cart was flung over 100 yards and rolled several times due to the impact. The collision occurred when a drunk driver traveling at 65 mph struck the golf cart from behind in a zone with a speed limit of 25 mph.

Hutchinson suffered a brain injury and multiple fractures, with significant bruising on his face. He remains in critical condition and has undergone two reconstructive surgeries. Ben Garrett is also in serious condition.

Police arrested the driver of the car, 25-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski, and charged her with DUI involving death and reckless homicide. Blood test results are pending, but the investigation confirmed that she was driving at 65 mph when the collision occurred.
